My favorite sweater pattern for babies

Chloe’s Favorite Baby Sweater

This little sweater is an easy knit, made in one piece, starting at one ribbed sleeve cuff and working your way over. The only finishing required is sewing the underarm seams. Oh, when I was working this up my son, Ben-who is 24-told me that he had been so impressed HIS WHOLE LIFE that I could knit a sweater bingo, just like that. Now looking at the pattern….not so impressive. Its a blob with a buttonhole in the middle.

Babies and children are remarkably uniform. Measure their little arms from the shoulder bone to wrist. Use that number to find the rest of the numbers on this size chart. In doubt? Go up a size.

Materials:Yarn you like. About 3 balls for the Newborn size. Another ball or so for each size larger.

I picked a bamboo fiber in Cupcake and Frosting, because I liked the way they felt, way more than any

of the baby yarn I found…although there was a pretty orange Dreamsicle I liked and a Bamboo leaf that

was pretty, too. Wash on gentle. Dry on a towel, overnight.

Use Shout for ookie stains. When he outgrows it, wash before putting it away.

Knitting is like parenting. No directions, really. Hit or miss.

Needle size 7and 8Gauge15 stitches = 4 inches or so. Depending.

At the beginning of the next 2 rows cast stitches on 22 (25,29, 33) stitches., work in garter stitch for 6, (8 ,10, 11) more rows.
